Swing roll

John Baldwin proposed to Rena Inoue at the end of their program. She said yes. I totally cried.

She looked so shocked. It was adorable.

Now, that's what I call nice. Were they the winners, by the way - I have been too engrossed in the Europeans to follow your Nationals?

No; the winners were Keauna McLaughlin & Rockne Brubaker. They were amazing, but because she is only 15, they can't be on the world team. Dick Button went on a strangely ambivalent rant about the current age rules, first seeming to say that the rules should be relaxed to allow the best skaters to compete internationally, then suggesting that the constant pressure from young up-and-comers prevents good skaters from having a chance to mature as competitors and develop a relationship with the public.

(short question, long answer!)

I just wish NISA would let our skaters go to Worlds, no matter how low their scores were - it's such good experience for the skaters.

We heard all about the proposal from the commentator, Chris Howarth, while watching the gala from Europeans!
